LEOTIS SANDERS is the Chief Civil Rights and Chief Diversity Officer (CRO & CDO) for New Jersey Transit (NJ TRANSIT), New Jersey’s public transportation corporation. In these roles Leotis serves supervises four distinct business units: “The Office of Business Development” which administers NJ TRANSIT’s Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) program and the State of New Jersey’s Small Business Enterprise (SBE) program; “Title VI Compliance” which supervises organization-wide compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act; “ADA Compliance” which ensures compliance with ADA and Accessibility related laws and regulations; and “NJ TRANSIT’s Diversity and Inclusion Program” which seeks ways to advance NJ TRANSIT’s corporate mission across all dimensions of diversity, for customers and employees.

Prior to joining NJ TRANSIT in 2009, Leotis worked in the private sector as Corporate Director of Workforce Diversity at (former) Macy’s East. As Director, Leotis was responsible for developing and implementing diversity programs and policies for 30,000 employees around Macy’s recruitment, employee development, community partnership, marketing and business strategy efforts. Leotis also worked in partnership with Macy’s Supplier Diversity and Corporate Giving offices on diversity and community outreach initiatives. Leotis earned dual BA degrees in Philosophy and Religion from the University of Rochester in 1995. In 1996 he earned an MS in Education, in a program built on principles of democratic teaching around issues of race, class and gender, from University of Rochester’s Margaret Warner School of Education. Leotis was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York and currently resides in Hackensack, New Jersey.
