Shawn Wooden is a Partner in Investment Management and Private Funds practice of Day Pitney LLP. Among other things, he leads the firm’s public pension fund investment practice. He is focused on investment, general corporate, and securities law with an emphasis on advising institutional investors in connection with alternative investment transactions. Additionally, Shawn has experience with the formation and regulation of private investment funds and investment advisory compliance. For the last 15 years, he has devoted most of his practice to representing public pension funds with private equity, real estate, venture capital, opportunistic, infrastructure, energy, hedge funds and a variety of other asset classes. Shawn has structured single-investor investment vehicles as well as negotiated strategic partner joint venture agreements, co-investment arrangements and hundreds of side letter agreements. He has also advised pension funds on policy development and compliance programs. Shawn has served as special advisor for corporate transactions in the AFL-CIO’s Office of Investment in Washington, D.C. and was named one of the “Twenty-Five Investment Professionals to Watch” by Pensions and Investments Magazine. He has been named as a Connecticut Super Lawyer (Thomson Reuters) for Securities and Corporate Finance, Business/Corporate.

Shawn has been at the forefront of Day Pitney’s diversity efforts since he was an Associate. He has served as a member of the firm’s Diversity & Inclusion Committee and, upon its creation, Shawn served as Chair of Day Pitney Attorneys of Color affinity group.

From 2012 – 2016, Shawn served as the President of the City Council of Hartford, CT and chaired its Operations, Management, Budget and Legislative Affairs Committee of the City Council. Prior to that, he served as a member of the Connecticut Citizen’s Ethics Advisory Board, the body which interprets and enforces the state’s ethics laws and oversees the Connecticut Office of State Ethics.

Shawn received his Juris Doctor degree from NYU School of Law and received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Trinity College. He is admitted to practice law in Connecticut, New York and Washington, D.C.
