Antonio Farias is Wesleyan University’s Vice President for Equity & Inclusion/Title IX and Sec. 504 Officer. A veteran himself, he also serves as the Posse Veteran Liaison Officer. He works closely with the offices of Academic Affairs, Admissions, Student Affairs, and University Relations on issues of inclusion and equity as they relate to race, ethnicity, sex, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, disability, age, veteran status, and national origin in the areas of recruitment, admission, retention, hires, promotion, and fundraising –and is responsible for maintaining proper university reporting procedures and policies as they pertain to federal and state laws.

Antonio came to Wesleyan in 2013 from the U.S. Coast Guard Academy. As the inaugural chief diversity officer, he helped develop a metrics-driven inclusion and diversity strategy for the Academy that eventually shaped strategy for the larger 47,000-member organization.

He also developed retention programs for faculty as well as students of color, first generation students, women, LGBTQ, and students of various faith/non-faith backgrounds; implemented pre-orientation programs for first generation and students of color; and conducted inclusion and diversity workshops throughout the U.S. Coast Guard leadership framework.

A marathoner and avid fly fisherman, he holds a BA in Comparative Literature and an MA in Ethnic Studies from UC Berkeley and an MFA from UC Riverside. His guiding principle is diversity in the service of democracy.
