Dr. Chandice Haste-Jackson is Internship Director and part-time faculty for the Human Development and Family Studies department at Syracuse University. In this role, she is responsible for academic preparation and experiential learning development for students preparing for graduate school in the social sciences and careers in human services. Additionally, she is responsible for establishing global internships emphasizing cross-cultural perspectives in child and family development and most recently has established a dyslexia education and certification program in Chennai, India in collaboration with Women’s Christian College, Ethiraj College and KIDS Learning Centre. She obtained a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Child and Family studies from Syracuse University, a Master of Science (MS) degree in Behavioral Sciences from Cameron University and a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Cultural Anthropology from Syracuse University. She most recently worked in the role of Director of the Syracuse University Liberty Partnerships Program (SU-LPP), where she created and implemented a multidimensional model of working with youth, schools and families and continues to work with LPP as a Research Program Coordinator. Prior to her work with SU-LPP, Dr. Haste-Jackson served as interim executive director at Dunbar Association, a human service agency serving low-income children and families in the inner city of Syracuse, where she was instrumental in creating responsive, youth focused programming. Dr. Haste-Jackson has over 25 years of executive leadership and service in human service organizations, creating and administering programs emphasizing academic preparation, remediation and support with inner city youth and families, parent education and advocacy, social welfare and community counseling. Affectionately known as “Dr. J” to her students, she is also part-time faculty with American Public University and Onondaga Community College, where she teaches courses in psychology, human development, early childhood education and family studies. Her research interests center around the cultural conceptions of womanhood, particularly African American women, and the intersections of spirituality, intimate relationship processes and lifespan development. She is married to a US Army veteran and is mother to three adult children and grandmother to five grandchildren ranging in age from 3 to 15 years old, all of whom are the joy of her life!

Dr. Haste-Jackson is a Red Cross volunteer, Syracuse City School District volunteer and a certified ENRICH/PREPARE facilitator.
