Ethel Harris is a native of New Haven, Connecticut and has been employed with AT&T for 24 years. As education is a prominent force in her life, she pursued her post-secondary education at Eastern Connecticut State University (B.S. in Communication), Southern Connecticut State University (B.S. in Sociology) and Albertus Magnus College (Master in Organizational Leadership).

Currently, Ethel is employed at AT&T as a Sr. Specialist-Business Management. After transitioning from SNET (Southern New England Telephone) to SBC and currently AT&T, she has held various positions. These positions have played a vital role in the development of her professional career and have strengthened her leadership skills which she continuously utilizes to motivate others. These positions include Service Representative, Billing Representative, Assistant Manager-Operator Services, Supervisor-Corporate Telecommunications and Sr. Specialist-Telephony Implementation & Operations.

Ethel enjoys the concept of philanthropy and promotes it within the walls of New Haven and surrounding communities. Ethel partakes in community work by means of professional and social organizations such as: Order of the Eastern Star, Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc., Women of AT&T, oxyGEN-New England, Junior Achievement, Aspire Mentoring Program, Tri-State Diversity Council, Diamond Divas (Founder/President), Groomed For Success (Founder) and AT&T Veterans-New England (President).

To prepare young adults and assist for the corporate/working world as well as secondary education, Ethel has established a mentoring program deemed “Groomed For Success” which is affiliated with local high schools in the New Haven area. Groomed For Success acknowledges the need and desire for leadership, dedication, and educational advancement for our youth. As Maya Angelo stated, “Any book that helps a child to form a habit of reading, to make reading one of his deep and continuing needs, is good for him.”

Ethel’s future includes preparing middle and high school students for post-secondary education and/or the workforce by means of serving as an Educational Consultant or Life Coach. This would include equipping their professional toolboxes with such skills/knowledge as leadership, diversity and inclusion, effective and efficient communication skills, accountability skills, time management as well as other necessary skills that are needed to gain success.

Family is important and is the focal point in Ethel’s life. Being married with children enables her to become a visionary and have a strong desire to motivate and strengthen others. Ethel has successfully accomplished many endeavors and remains grounded with the support of her husband and two sons.
