Ethel Harris is a native of New Haven, Connecticut and has been employed with AT&T for 21+ years. As education is a prominent force in her life, she pursued her post-secondary education at Eastern Connecticut State University (B.S. in Communication), Southern Connecticut State University (B.S. in Sociology) and completed a graduate degree with honors at Albertus Magnus College (Masters in Leadership).

Currently, Ethel is employed at AT&T as a Sr. Specialist-Business Management. While being employed at SNET, SBC and currently AT&T she has held many positions. These positions have played a vital role in the development of her professional career and have strengthened her leadership skills which she continuously utilizes to motivate others. These positions include Service Representative-OCC, Billing Representative-OCC, Assistant Manager-Operator Services, Supervisor-Corporate Telecommunications and Sr. Specialist-Telephony Implementation & Operations.

Ethel enjoys the concept of philanthropy and promotes it within the walls of New Haven and surrounding communities. Ethel partakes in community work by means of professional and social organizations such as: The Red Hat Society (President/Founder), Order of the Eastern Stars, Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc., Women of AT&T, oxygen (President NE Region), Junior Achievement, Aspire Mentoring Program (Ambassador for CT), Tri-State Diversity Council (Event Planner, CT Council Representative), Diamond Divas and Groomed For Success Mentoring Circle (Founder). Also, Ethel endorsed and spearheaded the Ben Carson Book Club which is affiliated with Yale University to Mauro-Sheridan Interdistrict Magnet School. Dr. Ben Carson Sr. is a Neurosurgeon and serves as the Director of Pediatric Neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins Hospital. Dr. Carson made history by performing the ground-breaking work of separating Siamese twins (conjoined twins). Dr. Carson is a graduate of Yale University located in New Haven, Connecticut.

To prepare young adults and assist for the corporate/working world as well as secondary education, Ethel has established a mentoring program deemed “Groomed For Success” which is affiliated with local high schools in the New Haven area. Groomed For Success acknowledges the need and desire for leadership, dedication, and educational advancement for our youth. As Maya Angelo stated, “Any book that helps a child to form a habit of reading, to make reading one of his deep and continuing needs, is good for him.”

Ethel’s future plans include but are not limited to climbing the corporate ladder and establishing a mentoring circle for elementary and middle school students in the New Haven area. She has high hopes of planting a mental seed denoting the importance of education and aid in helping that seed to get rooted and grow. Also, she would like to assist individuals that are already in the workforce improve their leadership, diversity and professional skills by sharing resolutions to obstacles that she has encountered over her 23 year span of corporate employment as well as community involvement.

Family is important and is the focal point in Ethel’s life. Being married with children enables her to become a visionary and have a strong desire to motivate and strengthen others. Needless to say, Ethel has successfully accomplished many endeavors and remains grounded with the support of her husband and two sons.
